2 Days in Miri, Sarawak - The Escape from Urban Life!

Miri is a small city in Northern of Sarawak, Malaysia in the Island of Borneo. By itself, Miri City has much to offer to travelers with spectacular diving paradises, breathtaking national parks, frequent festivals and international events, multiracial and multicultural festive seasons, and plenty of delicious food. Miri is the gateway to the Gunung Mulu National Park which is a World Heritage Site, and the Kelabit Highlands of Sarawak. The oldest human remains in South East Asia which located in The Niah Cave is just located about 100km away from Miri City.

The must visit place in Miri is Gunung Mulu Natioanl Park. It is the second highest peak. This park was gazette as a UNESCO's World Heritage site on December 2000. The 52,864 hectare park contains seventeen vegetation zones, exhibiting some 3,500 species of vascular plants. Its palm species are exceptionally rich, with 109 species in twenty genera noted. The park is dominated by Gunung Mulu, a 2,377 meter-high sandstone pinnacle. At least 295 kilometer of explored caves provide a spectacular sight and are home to millions of cave swiftlets and bats. The Sarawak Chamber, 600 meter by 415 meter and 80 meter high, is the largest known cave chamber in the world.


Crocodile Farm Mini Zoo is the next best attraction which is located Kuala Baram River Mouth (previous Ferry Terminal), a pleasant scenic Coastal drive along Miri-Kuala Baram Road. This is the first and the largest crocodile farm in the northern region of Sarawak. The Crocodile Farm Mini Zoo is also registered and recognized by Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. Here you can see thousands of crocodiles of different species as well as other exotic animals from tropical countries.
